Condensation is a nuisance on my old windows but I hear it can alsocause damage. Is that true?
Answer:
Condensation can be a serious problem. The moisture produced by everyday activities such as cooking and showering shows up first on cool dense surfaces such as windows. Over the long term, this dripping can damage windows and nearby surfaces such as drywall and promote growth of mould, a potential health hazard.
One solution is to reduce humidity but levels can't always be lowered sufficiently, especially in the winter. A solution can lie in the windows and air flow around them. Keep blinds and curtains open a little will allow airflow around the window and help prevent condensation from build up by giving it time to dry.

Your solution doesn't make sense. Wouldn't keeping curtains open help with evaporation? Or do you mean close drapes so that moisture is blocked? How would the windows themselves be a better solution? A blank comment without supporting statements doesn't inform or sell your windows. I've been told that no window available can stop condensation and not to believe anyone who says there is such a product. . . Please comment!
ReplyDeleteNo window can stop condensation in a home, but it can be a problem if it is allowed to build up. Even more so when you have new windows. Adding new windows in a home can cause more condensation as now there is no air flow threw the windows like the old ones were doing.
ReplyDeleteOne way to help is to promote more air flow around the window. If you keep your blinds or curtains closed all the time this can cause more condensation on the window and not allow the water to evaporate into the air. Which can cause a lot more problems if it is allowed to stay on the sill.
I am sorry if my explanation was unclear, but keeping blinds or curtains open at least a little does help with window problems by allowing the window to dry.
